Eldon students showcase their talent
Eldon Upper Elementary students had the chance to showcase their talents Friday evening, May 9, during the Eldon PTA-sponsored talent show.
The event featured 19 different acts ranging from vocal and instrumental solos to gymnastics, dance routines, drama and martial arts.
Below is a listing of students and their acts.

Brianna Burnett and Cory Homan - Judo demonstration.

Our Lady of the Snows graduates four

City to flush water mains, hydrants May 12
The city of Eldon Water and Fire Departments will be flushing water mains and fire hydrants throughout the city starting next Monday, May 12.  The work should be completed within two weeks.
The public is asked to exercise caution while doing laundry during this period, as the water may be discolored due to rust and/or temporary cloudiness.
The discoloration should be temporary, and will clear up in a brief period of time.

Eldon band awards concert May 12
The Eldon High School band awards concert is at 7 p.m., Monday, May 12, in the high school gym.
The concert is free and open to the public.

Adult prom Saturday, May 17
“Dancing with the stars” is the theme of an adult (21 or older) prom to benefit the Relay for Life of Miller County. The event will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, May 17, at the Eldon Community Center.
Music for the event will be provided by Dave Souders, and the cost is $10 per person or $15 per couple.
Hors d’oeuvres, soda and juice will be provided at the dance, but attendees may bring other drinks, and a “Prom King and Queen” will be crowned. A 50-50 drawing will also be held during the night.
Tickets may be purchased at the Eldon Chamber of Commerce office, FASCO Industries’ personnel office, Regions Bank of Eldon, Vernon Publishing or at the Bank of Iberia.

Friends of Animals car show May 17
The Eldon Friends of Animals will host a benefit car show Saturday, May 17, rain or shine, at the Eldon Airpark.
Awards will be given for first, second, third, best of show and host choice.
Dash plaques are guaranteed for the first 150 entrants and registration is from 7 a.m. to noon.  Judging by participants will begin at noon, and concessions will be available on the grounds.
The event will also feature a 50-50 drawing, with all proceeds going to the Eldon Friends of Animals Humane Society.

Museum open house delayed until May 17
The Miller County Historical Society will host their anual open house event at the museum in Tusucmbia on Saturday, May 17, from 12 to 3 p.m. This is a week later than previously planned.
Renovation has been progressing with the new addition finished and work is now being done on the older part of the museum located on the first floor. It has taken on a completely new look and will be quite a showplace when finished. It is that work which prompted the date change.
Come visit the museum on May 17 and enjoy a tour of the new and old facilities. The research department is wonderfully equipped now with manty volumes of local and family histories and access to the internet is also available for research.

Signup May 20 for Eldon swim lessons
Signup for Eldon Red Cross swim lessons will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, at the Eldon Community Center. Children may sign up at this time for levels I through VI.
To sign up, a child must have completed first grade and the cost is $17 in cash.
For children attending summer school, parents must provide transportation to and from the Eldon Aquatic Center for the lessons.
Lesson schedules for students in Levels I, II and III are, as follows.
From 9 to 10 a.m. and 10 to 11 a.m. (two classes each day) Monday through Saturday, June 23-28, and Tuesday and Wednesday, July 1 and 2.
Lesson times for students in Levels IV, V and VI are, as follows.
From 8:30 to 10 a.m. Monday and Wednesday, June 9 and 11.
From 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, June 10, 12 and 14.
From 8 to 9 a.m. Friday, June 13.

Osage Project Graduation is May 22

Plans are underway for Osage High School’s Project Graduation, to be held at the Osage Beach Y.M.C.A. after the Thursday, May 22, commencement ceremonies. 
The schedule of events are as follows: 
9:30 to 10 p.m. 
Students will load on the bus and roll call will be taken. The student’s emergency contacts will be notified for any senior who has signed up, but is absent. 
10 p.m. to 4 a.m. 
Students will arrive at  the Y.M.C.A. and will be presented with a set of rules. They will then engage in a group activity. By 11 a.m., the students will be in the rotation system to play games, and money will be earned for each game played. Food will be provided by various local restaurants.
4:30 a.m. 
Students will return to the Upper Elementary cafeteria for breakfast. A drawing will also be held for various prizes.
So far organizers have raised $35,000, with a goal of $40,000, for the 2008 Project Graduation.

Puppies set to fly at the lake June 6-8
Calling all dog lovers; canine cannonballs are returning.
The second annual canine cannonball dog jumping competition, sponsored by Dockdogs, will be held the weekend of Friday, June 6 through Sunday, June 8 at Dog Days Bar and Grill in Osage Beach. Lake areas pets and their owners will compete in a series of events to determine which area dog can leap both the farthest and the highest.
Attending the event is free and open to the public, however there are various fees for those wishing to participate. Last year’s inaugural event was big hit, attracting an estimated 5,000 people to the lake and organizers are hope this year will be even bigger.
The Big Air Wave and Extreme Vertical competitions are set to return, along with a new attraction; the Speed Retrieve. Big Air Wave and Speed Retrieve will be limited to 40 dogs, while only 16 dogs will compete in Extreme Vertical. 
The schedule runs as follows:
Friday June 6
Registration and practice will begin at 3 p.m., with the first Big Air Wave starting at 5 p.m. and Extreme Vertical following at 7 p.m.
Saturday June 7, 2008
Registration and practice starts at 10 a.m. 
The only competitions planned for Saturday are four Big Air Waves and they will begin in two hour increments starting at noon. 
Sunday June 8, 2008
Registration and practice again begins at 10 a.m.
The Speed Retrieve competition starts at 11 a.m., followed by the last Big Air Wave at 1 p.m.
Big Air Wave finals will then begin with amateurs at 3:30 p.m., semi-pros at 4 p.m. and pro finals at 4 :30 p.m.
Contestants can also register online at www.dockdogs.com until Tuesday, June 3, however pre-registration will close at 30 dogs. 

EHS alumni banquet set for Saturday, Aug. 9
The Eldon High School alumni banquet, the “grand finale” of the 100-year celebration, will be held Saturday, Aug. 9, at the Eldon Community Center.
Plans are being made for the event, to start with an open house at noon in Rooms A and B.  This is a time for fellow classmates to visit and reminisce, and all EHS alumni are invited.
The theme this year is “Memories,” and special recognition will be given to EHS families and members of classes ending in “8.”
There will also be the annual king and queen pageant, along with a candlelight ceremony recognizing all past and present military personnel present.
The doors will open at 6 p.m. for the alumni banquet, with the meal served at 6:30 p.m.
Reservation forms are being mailed.  Those planning to attend should return the forms, along with the questionnaire and memories as soon as possible to JoAnn Jones, 120 S. Maple Street, Eldon, Mo. 65026.
